Must see? Must do? Must experience! The highlights in Meran and beyond.

The heart of South Tyrol is particularly diverse, presenting a vibrant array of activities to experience. While the spa town of Meran is already a highlight, the surrounding area also boasts numerous attractions. From the adventurous to the enchanting, South Tyrol’s blend of cultural richness and natural splendour offers all kinds of remarkable discoveries. The Meran area is everything but ordinary.

The crown jewel: the spa & garden town. Meran captivates all who visit with its spa town elegance, much like it once delighted Empress Sissi. Surrounded by greenery, the historic imperial architecture harmoniously and impressively merges culture and nature. Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, strolling through Meran’s arcades or along its magnificent promenades is a year-round delight.

This fusion of Alpine and Mediterranean influences enriches the well-being of its visitors, encouraging them to blossom – just as the town does each spring. What’s more, Meran is just ten minutes from the Hotel Mesnerwirt! With the convenience of public transport and the Südtirol Mobilcard, it’s easy to reach without your car.

The beauty of nature: the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

Japanese cherry trees, silk trees, dahlias, lotus flowers, Meran roses – these are just a few of the flowering plants that call Trauttmansdorff Castle home. Plants and flowers take turns decorating the expansive park throughout the seasons, gracing the landscape until well into November.

In 2013, the park was named “International Garden of the Year”.  In addition to its natural splendour, the castle is no stranger to cultural experiences. Summer concerts held by the pond cater to enthusiasts of both classical and contemporary music genres. Within the castle lies the Touriseum, a captivating museum that offers an entertaining journey through the history of tourism in South Tyrol.

The oasis: the Therme Meran

The Terme Meran/Therme Meran embodies the quintessential spa town experience. Just a few kilometres from the Hotel Mesnerwirt, a warm spring bubbles up in the heart of Meran, inviting you into a wonderful world of water and relaxation. The saunas in the thermal spa centre are a delightful place to sweat.

In winter, you can swim from the indoor pool directly into one of the outdoor pools and enjoy the warm water amidst snow-covered lawns. In summer, these same areas offer space for sunbathing surrounded by greenery.

The panoramic performance: the Knottnkino

The Knottnkino’s seats are arranged as if it were a cinema; however, the absence of a screen and projector hints at its uniqueness – the Knottnkino is a rock cinema. With every season painting a new backdrop, the landscape itself becomes a live performance, offering viewers an ever-changing spectacle that rivals any blockbuster!

The mystical men: the Stoanernen Mandln

Nowhere else can you find as many of these intriguing structures as in the vicinity of Hafling, at an elevation of 2,000 metres. These “stone men”, whether crafted by bored shepherds or used as ancient trail markers, are shrouded in mystery. With flint tools discovered nearby and carvings etched into the stones, they hint at untold tales. Their mystique, combined with the breathtaking surroundings, makes them a popular destination for hikers and cyclists alike.
